Verizon reported recently that the sales they had with the iPhone 4 during the first period when this product was sold exceeded all the expectations and this proved to be the best product for them. Daniel S. Mead, chief executive at Verizon Wireless said that the figures of the sales will not be disclosed until the next earnings release.
It is estimated that the sales of iPhone 4 will be high in the first quarter of 2011 also, the company having the possibility of selling up to 4 million devices. Around 10 million gadgets could be sold until December 31, 2011. Compared to the first three days when this product was launched, we can say that the sales went down, considering that only in the first three days, Apple sold 1.7 million items. However, this number does not represent only the sales in the United States, but worldwide. The company which made those calculations said that Verizon will sell 10 million devices in 2011 in the United States only.
More than 60% of sales are made online and the customers receive their products at home. The same Mr Mead said in the next few days, the company is going to double the number of the stores which sell iPhone 4. Verizon expects that Apple will sell iPhone that will be included in the 4G technology, which is available at the Verizon company. This technology is based on the Long Term Evolution technology, another innovation about which we discussed in an article of the last week.
Mr Mead did not specifiy exactly what are the products that are likely to be included to run under this technology. Verizon is very much preocupied in promoting the sales of iPhone 4, but they don’t leave behind products like Chrome and Android from Google, BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7. Verizon is also interested in Nokia, especially after this company established a partnership with Microsoft. Immediately after it was announced that Nokia will use Windows Phone 7 and will promote Microsoft operating system instead of the Symbian system, Verizon, in the person of Mr Mead, became very interested in the deal and immediately called Stephen Elop from Nokia to discuss with him about the plans that Nokia has in the nearest future. Verizon Wireless now is awaiting to hearing from Nokia what will be the next steps of the company.
In case you did not know, Verizon Wireless also is a joint venture cmpany, so it is clear why they are interested in such deals. The company is formed by Verizon Communications Inc and Vodafone Group PLC.
